You can not change the tv resolution.2

Solution

The tv will only display what it is being feed. Keep in mind that the only source for 1080P is from a blu ray disc movie and some video games. Tv program on HD are 720P.

Some provider will up convert the signal to 1080P. DVD movies are in 480P, some player may up convert the signal to 720P. Hope this will help you out.
