Whats a good home theater system for an 12x12 room?

So I wonder if I should get 5.1 or 7.1? Not sure how to go about this. Right now I already have 55hdtv and blu ray dvd player. Far as what receiver and and speakers and subs etc... im lost on that 

Also this may be a stupid question but do I need match watts with the receiver and speakers? In other words like if I have a powerful receiver, do I need to get power speakers and sub?

at the moment 7.1 isn't supported by many films games or even music you'll notice on cases it always says dolba digital 5.1 that's what it the content is in so basically you'll be buying a 7.1 for no reason i'd wait a few more years until 7.1 is more supported
