What's missing here though is the ability to add any effects to improve your voice There's no output or input for an external effect (FX) processor.

It will mix one mic with the backing sound from a stereo source and then give you a signal you can record on to something else 2

The best thing for you would be to buy a small mixer. Behringer is inexpensive and totally suitable for home studio use 2
