Accepted Solution

Are all electronics such as TVs, DVD players, etc. Infrared?

Probably a dumb question, but I'm looking at a universal remote control for my lounge room and it says it controls all infrared devices. How can i tell if my devices are infrared or are all of these types of electronics infrared! Hope someone can help me, thanks for your time whoever replies. 🙂

Most equipment does use infrared. There is equipment available that use RF but that is typically for devices that you add on to be able to locate equipment out of sight. I would recommend getting a programmable remote instead of a universal one. Programmable ones have the benefit of not only learning from other remotes but being able to fully customize. I really like the Harmony One by Logitech which is still available just not made anymore. The Harmony series has a fairly wide price range but even the cheapest model has a lot of capability compared to most universal remotes.
