Do TV's affect surround sound quality?

If you were to hook up a surround sound system to an old box TV and the same system to an HDTV, would the sound coming from the surround sound be different?

Or would the surround sound quality be independent from the TV?

Re: Do TV's affect surround sound quality?

The overhead speakers will connect to the speaker outputs (page 6 item 14). If you have 4 or 8 ohm normal speakers connect them there - if you have commercial 70 volt speakers with transformers, connect them to the 70 volt connections.
