Sadly enough

Sadly enough, I found onsite that once decay attacks a tree there is little one can do to save the tree. It seems, according to the site, that when the rot is evident to the homeowner, it usually has spread so far inside the tree that treatment is useless and there may be only one option left.

Re: Sadly enough

Some advocate cutting off the decaying branch before rot spreads and I can see where that might be a wise choice in some instances but when it came to our tree, the base of the tree was filled with black rot, and clearly cannot be saved. I even doubt that the other side of this "V" shaped tree can be saved either for it is closely connected to the side that fell.

Re: Sadly enough

At this time, we have a call into a tree company who are coming to see if the other side of this tree can be saved or whether it should be cut down before it falls down. I suspect the later will be the case, and though I am somewhat saddened by the thought of losing this tree that both of my boys have played on and around for so long, I realize that if it is diseased, it must come down before it does more damage than the other half did when it fell.
